WHY I CHOSE THIS CAREER...
“You should study accounting. You’re really good with numbers, you enjoy helping people, and you’ll get to work in a nice air-conditioned office.” These were the wise words from my father, the perpetually sunburnt, self-employed gardener, when I asked him what I should do with my life.
My father may be a gardener by trade, but he is also an excellent financial planner and long-term investor. From a young age he taught me the values of careful financial planning and long-term investing, not only in terms of dollars but also in terms of relationships. My father invested his life into his five children and he instilled into each of us an inherent desire to use our gifts and abilities to help others. The results of his life-long investments are an anesthesiologist, a nurse, two school teachers, and me, the CPA.
I took my father’s advice and parlayed an accounting degree into a successful career in public accounting. However, after my eighth tax season, a particularly long and grueling one, I began thinking I needed a change. It was right at that time I spent some time with Bob Gravette; his timing was impeccable! He showed me how I could employ my skillset in a whole new environment; an environment that was “tax season free” where I could still fulfill my desire to help people. So, in 2013, I joined Criterion Wealth Management.
Now, I get to spend each day helping people to protect, preserve and grow the wealth they’ve worked so hard to build.
WHEN I’M NOT AT WORK YOU’LL FIND ME…
Outside. Michelle (my wife) and I enjoy spending our free time with our kids (Zane & Meadow) at the beach, in the mountains, playing at the park, etc. It doesn’t really matter, as long as it’s outside.
